Godrej Tooling continue to retain its position as a key player in the design and manufacture of tools and tooling equipment. The company manufacture custom-built, high-quality tooling that caters to a broad cross-section of players across industries. It has the expertise in industrial machines, pressure dies, casting dies, press dies, die casting dies, thermo-compression moulds, complex and large-sheet metal tooling for auto panels, and progressive dies.

New product development is our USP and recently we have made 3,000 tons die casting die,” informed Milind Kore, Associate General Manager, Godrej Tooling while speaking to Modern Plastics at TAGMA Die Mold Exhibition at Mumbai.

The company has received good response from customers and partners at the exhibition. “Many of our suppliers and partners are here, showcasing their capabilities here. We are exhibiting Godrej Tooling capabilities and latest technology in complex tooling.

Godrej Tooling has a team of 500 people, including 50 designers and 350 trained associates supported by 39 CNC machines and 140 conventional machines, the systems-driven organization is equipped with the latest technology platforms, software and manufacturing processes.

Speaking on the potential of the evolving Indian market, Milind Kore said, “India now presents huge growth opportunity due to government’s ‘Make-in-India’ drive and as a result everybody wanted to develop tools here in India. Secondly, the current global scenario is favours India as world is looking for alternate supply-chain as part of ‘China-plus policy’.”

Moreover, India has among the fastest GDP growth globally, auto sector is also booming impacting the growth of the tooling industry. Godrej Tooling has huge client base in the Indian automobile industry with all the major OEMs are its customers.

Godrej Tooling has among India’s most advanced tool rooms, serving customers like Honda Cars & Motorcycles, Toyota, Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, Caparo, and Valeo.

With tooling base developing in the domestic market, the companies now prefers to source their tooling requirement from the domestic suppliers. “Earlier, Indian companies used to import tooling from China but now major brands sets-up bases and offering latest hi-technology complex tools here in India. Besides, entry of foreign players drives Indian companies to develop tools, now customer has solution available here and not to rely on imports anymore.”

Established in 1935, Godrej Tooling tool room regarded as the most advanced in India. The idea behind this was to encourage the indigenisation of machine tools. This forward-thinking vision, coupled with the highly skilled expertise of the tool room, were the reasons why it got the first order to manufacture satellite components for ISRO.

Godrej serves more than 60 customers annually and it has the first CII GreenCo gold-rated toolroom in the country.
